Sadly, I cannot make the link work and cannot listen to it with Firefox or Internet Explorer.  It says the site is unavailable.  Strangely enough, I was able to get to the site through AOL, but was still not able to listen.  Kelli tells me it can be accessed through iTunes, but I'm a bit unsophisticated about iTunes and have not tried to locate it there yet.

But  I know that many of my readers are much more iPod and iTunes savvy than I, so I wanted to put that link up for your enjoyment.  Go and have a listen if you can, and send me your thoughts.  And if you've come here through the podcast, welcome!

A Reminder -- Size Matters

All the scarves in the gallery look GREAT!  Thank you all for your wonderful efforts and enthusiastic response. 

Just a gentle reminder that the OFA would like the scarves to be 5 to 8 inches wide, 60 or greater inches long.  I think the idea is to make everyone's gift seem more or less equal.  Shorter scarves are nice, and personally I would certainly like that as a gift, but the 60-inch length is one of the few requirements that the program has -- that and softness.  I know that some scarves received last year needed to be sent out to their team of knit rehabilitators because they were too short, or they were donated to area group homes, rather than be sent to the intended recipients in college.  I know it takes longer and takes more yarn, but just keep that in mind when making your scarf.

Red Scarf Canada?

Dear Canadians,

Several people have asked me if there is a sister organization to orphans.org in Canada, and sadly I am at a loss to answer the question.  Suddenly it dawned on me that readers of this blog in Canada might have the answer.  I already know that many of the contributors to this project are Canadian, and the outpouring of Canadian love is going to be evident in the mail that orphan.org receives in January. 

If anyone knows of an organization that does similar things in Canada, will you please let us all know?  Or perhaps some enterprising person will start up Care Package Canada or Red Scarf Canada.  How cool would that be?!

Hello, Nebraska!

We welcome a new team of knitters to the Red Scarf Project -- Team Nebraska! 

Adelle has devised a button, which I will add to the sidebar.

In other news, a few people have asked, "What if we get too many scarves?  How many are they asking for?"

I asked Annalisa Assaadi, the National Events Coordinator of orphan.org, that very question.  The answer?  We need 2,500 scarves for the Valentine's Day packages.  Any extras will be donated to area group homes.  So keep on knitting and encouraging others to do so!

It's Smart Business

Lucia brings me wonderful news of something that a yarn shop can do to help with the Red Scarf Project while at the same time bringing customers through the door and enticing them to buy, buy, buy!

located in the San Francisco Bay Area, will be a drop-off location for the project from now to January 7th, and whoever drops off a scarf will get 10% off their purchases. And we will host a series to "Knit for the Red Scarf Project" events (probably 4, the first Sunday of Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan).

Hollis, the owner, will send out a newsletter to her customers soon, to publicize this.

I just received this email from Rae in Michigan regarding the poster for Red Scarf. It is blowing me away to see the knitbloggers move the info and organize. If only we ran the country.....

Hi,

I am a yarn shop owner & will be putting one up. Plus last night at the local knitting guild meeting the charity knitting group decided they needed a change from the dozens of chemo caps they've been knitting & are switching over to red scarves till December! I think they can put a sign up at the book store they knit at too.
