Red Scarf Project Blog

What is the Red Scarf Project?

  • The Red Scarf Project, a project of the Orphan Foundation of America, or Orphan.org, collects scarves to send in Valentine's Day care packages to college students who have aged out of foster care. These brave young people are going it on their own and trying to improve their lives and the community by attending college. The care packages are welcome tokens of encouragement to young people who otherwise receive little to no mail. Your scarf should be soft (any material), unisex design, and approximately 60 inches long by 5 to 8 inches wide. Machine washable is a plus, but it is not absolutely necessary. Mail it to: Orphan Foundation of America The Red Scarf Project 21351 Gentry Drive Sterling, VA 20166 ..but not until September 1, 2009-December, 2009. Please read all the info in this blog. Most of your questions will be answered here. Also, please check out the Red Scarf Ravelry group. If you still have questions that remain unanswered, please email me at norma.knits@gmail.com

I have finished my second red scarf. I am shipping them off today. As soon as I get my computer back from the shop I will send you a picture.

I can't send a picture, but I did complete a scarf. In fact, I'm running to the post office at lunch to send it out!

Hi! I made a red scarf, and got it mailed off today. Here's a link to the post with pics of the finished scarf:

I took a picture of my red heart scarf, but my camera decided to take a wee vacation somewhere in my messy messy messy home. I knit my scarf up and mailed it last week -- it was a cherry red Lions Brand Cashmere blend scarf and it was a delight to knit for a special someone out there.
Although I originally thought I'd just leave it as a random act of charity, I realized that I should let you know how much your blog inspired me to knit up a red scarf at the last minute for one of the best causes I've ever heard of. Thanks for organizing this!
PS -- if I can ever find the wretched camera (which I'm sure my kids have thoroughly hidden), I'll send a picture for your galleries.

Hi;

Is it too late to send a scarf? I have one that is done but I know you are on a tight timeline. Let me know if there's still time to get it to you. If I mail it on Feb. 5th, it should get to you around the 7th or 8th, Express Mail. Thanks.

Kathy
