A long-time reader-buddy, Jennifer, has donated some scrumptious prizes for the Red Scarf Contest, which isn't so much a contest as a drawing: Knit a scarf, tell me about it, I put your name in a hat at the end of the mailing period, I award prizes. Pretty simple, really.
Jennifer is sending some lovely skeins of Fyberspates yarn, photographed here.
I'll let Jennifer explain in her own words:
Hi Norma! I don't know if you remember me, but you helped me figure
out the description "pudding-shaped island". Now I'm writing to you
from London, where I am taking a few months' break from my real life in
Florida. Puddings everywhere!
The Red Scarf project was in my
thoughts at Ally Pally, where I picked out the yarns for the scarf I
plan to knit. I also couldn't resist getting a few skeins for you to
give out as prizes ... I was looking for a UK yarn blogreaders might
have heard about but not had the opportunity to try. In the end, I
chose Fyberspates because a) it's hard to resist hand-dyed, b) the
popularity of Knitcast and the Knitting Olympics's Team Wales makes me
think knittters would like Welsh wool, and c) I recognized the name as
an advertiser in one of the online magazines (she thought it must be
Knitty).
Anyway, I have two lots of yarn to add to the kitty.
The first 2 photos below are my attempt to capture a spring-like skein
of sock yarn: 100 grams/425 meters, 75% wool + 25% polymide. The next
2 of photos do absolutely no justice to the yarn--each skein is 100
grams/134 meters of 100% Bluefaced Leicester. The colorway is so
delicious that when my partner (motto: "Grey is my favorite color")
saw it for the first time, he blurted out "Is that for me? Can it be
my scarf?" Plus of course both prizes are embued with lovely Ally
Pally vibes to promote good knitting mojo!
So knit on, people!
