Contest, Part The Second

Keyboard Biologist Theresa has donated another prize for the contest -- a copy of her wonderful "Here There be Dragons" sock pattern -- in electronic form -- and a skein of Socks That Rock medium weight to knit the socks in.

Maia Spins and Knits and Designs and Steeks

Maia has completed two new beautiful and creative scarves.  She knit them in the round with steeks that are then used for the fringe.  I vote for her scarf using Cascade 220 and Sari Silk as the best use of Sari Silk EVER.

The Contest

I have finally gotten around to photographing the lovely skein (400 yds. worsted-weight merino -- very soft!) of yarn hand-dyed by Scout for the contest giveaway.  Isn't it purty????  The colors in reality are a little more sedate, like in this photo: 

...but I loved that photo with the potted flowers so much I wanted to include it. 

I have had a dickens of a time deciding what the contest should be, and the lack of decision was weighing on me.  This morning I said to myself, "Norma, get over it.  Just decide, and keep it simple, stupid." 

So I did.  I've decided that you get one entry for each scarf you complete before the deadline.  At the end of the contest, I will draw a name.  The person who belongs to that name will get the yarn.  If there are other prizes donated, I will draw more names. And so on.  The deadlline for the contest will be the same time all the scarves are due -- the end of January 2007.

There.  Simple and sweet.  So don't be shy, like Knit-and-Run Carol, who I had to go find on my own had completed a scarf already.  Step right up and tell me about your scarves and send in your photos for the gallery.  Isn't the gallery looking pretty?

Photo Gallery Added

I've added a photo gallery of finished scarves to the sidebar and taken the liberty of using Gale's beautiful poster image as the title page.  I've visited the blogs of everyone I know about who has completed a scarf and nicked all the images.  Please send your complaints for prosecution to the proper authorities if you want to see me go to jail.  <g>

Marie, Ms. Yarn Angel, I visited your blog, but the photo of your completed red scarf seems to be missing.  Send me a copy if you'd like me to put it in the gallery.

Hello, Nebraska!

We welcome a new team of knitters to the Red Scarf Project -- Team Nebraska! 

Adelle has devised a button, which I will add to the sidebar.

In other news, a few people have asked, "What if we get too many scarves?  How many are they asking for?"

I asked Annalisa Assaadi, the National Events Coordinator of orphan.org, that very question.  The answer?  We need 2,500 scarves for the Valentine's Day packages.  Any extras will be donated to area group homes.  So keep on knitting and encouraging others to do so!

Red Scarves, More Red Scarves

Mary Anne from British Columbia has completed a gorgeous red scarf.  Go visit her blog here, and while you're there, just take a gander at all the hat-and-scarf sets she's done for the Dulaan Project, beautifully and lovingly tied together with ribbons.  It made me cry -- it truly did.

Next up in the Red Scarf Parade is Maia, who knitted a real beauty and posted the beautiful pattern (it's a pdf) she designed just for the Red Scarf Project.  Wonderful!

And Cookie is an over-achiever.  She's completed yet another lovely shown here.
