SATURDAY SKY: TRIBECA BRUNCH EDITION

Here we are in beautiful New York, where we had a delicious brunch at an outdoor cafe in Tribeca (mmmmm, spinach-artichoke quiche and tomato-arugula salad for me.)  Following brunch, we did more back-to-school shopping.  Will the back-to-school shopping ever end?  Heh-heh-heh, stay tuned.  Now we are cooling off in Ryan's new apartment, resting our weary feet.  Soon we'll be off to see the law school campus.

I am feeling seriously hung over, and even though that beautiful blue sky and sunshine are beckoning, I can hardly get out of my own shadow this morning.  Last night was fun, but oh-so-exhausting, and I didn't get home until well after midnight, what with driving home in rain and fog and in an almost stuporous state.  I think I did a reasonably good job, and though it was far from perfect, I can't imagine many other people doing an appreciably better job.  It was challenging -- that's an understatement.  And it was seriously HOT up in that balcony.  Towards the end of the second act, I felt woozy and so did my steno machine.  I was fighting it to get it to register the O key last night.  As I said to someone else who was working there last night, this Mira steno machine is the most expensive PIECE OF CRAP I have ever owned.  I feel eminently justified saying this now that I have just come back from a conference where I rubbed elbows with some of the elite, all of whom had the same opinion. I can't wait 'til the pieced-together old faithful one will work with my computer (it's the connection that is the problem with that one, I think/hope, and I'm waiting for the proper connecting device to arrive).  There was a point in time when I was getting pure gobbledegook.  I stopped writing for a bit.  It's as if the machine overheated or something(?).  Anyway, then I picked up again, and there were fewer errors.  I know *I* was certainly overheated, as were the other two people working up there.   

Anyway, super-fresh asparagus for brunch!  That's certainly got to improve my mood and energy.  And hopefully I can get out there and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Good Morning

I haven't done a Saturday Sky post in ages, and this works out well for today. I was on a strict no-typing order last night, and I slept about 11 hours. My right arm is all taped up, my left is in a wrist brace, and it's not easy to type. But amazing as it may seem, the sun is actually out this morning.  It's cold, though, and I'm still in my bathrobe, so you get this quick photo taken from my living room looking out the window. 

I'm going to lie low for the rest of the weekend, trying to get in as much sleep and healing as possible.  This blue sky and the crisp cold air are calling to me, though.  I will be going for a nice walk, at least.

Apparently Gwen's yarn is going to be sold off today. I'm sure several people will be attending the sale to get some bargain yarn. I know the yarn has to go somewhere, and it should rightfully go to avid yarn lovers (and I'm sure Gwen would want it this way), but I can't bring myself to go watch the spectacle. So I will think of some other way to fill up my time today.

For starters, I will celebrate Oliver's new wheelchair.  Have you Americans bought your raffle tickets for the incredible American blanket yet?  A little of my stash sale money bought in, and I hope I win win win!

Then after that, maybe I'll play with Flickr tools, which turns out to be a wicked lot of fun. (But I will never, ever link my blog photos to Flickr. Takes so long to load, it gives me hives.) (As always, click the photos to make them bigger.)

I will contemplate the gray Saturday sky.


Maybe I'll squeeze some more juice out of my Zitron.

A Troublemaker In Every Bunch

First, it's been a while since I posted a Saturday Sky photo. This one, taken from my front porch this morning, makes me happy.  I'm drawn to stormy skies in photos and paintings.  Winter paintings, stormy paintings - love them.   

And this may be the first time ever that I've made my digital camera behave with a gray sky, so that's something.  What this photo needs is a black border.  I've got to get that Photoshop installed!  Such a slacker I am.

It's time for a little pin oak action.  What with the poor lighting, it's not as beautiful in these photos as it is in reality. It is putting on quite a show this year.  The year started out very wet, so the tree grew and leafed out incredibly well.  It's starting to encroach on the neighbor's yard and almost reaches our house.  When I planted this thing, I never, ever thought I'd see the day when it almost touched the house.

Those who have been following along might remember that according to that biorhythms site, today is the day I will be afflicted with a serious case of The Stupids.  I guess that's only fitting after such a high from work last night.  Land with a thud -- ah, what the hell. 

But this morning I got an email from Ann telling me about a challenge she posted for me in her blog.  Well, just yesterday I was emailing several people that I hoped and intended for this to be a full-on KNIT WEEKEND.  Yes!  Believe it or NOT!  I really was planning to work on my 2nd liner mitt and maybe get started on the outer mitts -- nothing so lofty-goaled as a sweater.  But maybe I'll just give Ann a run for her money.  What do you think?  But should it be the CPH or the Ribby?  Will I finish a sweater in 2007?  Who's taking bets?

Spring Fever

The gardener is pouting. 

It's spring by the calendar, but it's only 28° F/-2C outside. 

Gazing longingly at the seed packets.  Looking out the window.  Pretending there is no cleaning to do.

The film on the window tells me otherwise.

Every year I get seduced into putting some seeds in the ground on April 1st.  It is the ultimate April Fool's joke on me.  A few of them germinate.  Most that do end up freezing or so stunted in growth that I pull them out when I am putting in the things that have a chance of survival at the tail end of May.
