198. It's My Birthday. You Get A Present. Cake All Around.
We bloggers are weird creatures, are we not? It's my birthday, but you get a present. Well, a chance at one, anyway. All you have to do is leave a comment to this post and I'll enter your name in a drawing for the great pink sock kit giveaway that I'll tell you about now.
Did you ever know about Laura's lovely Pink Ribbon Sock Kit? She designed an excellent pink-ribbon sock pattern, hand-dyed the 100% merino superwash yarn in a sweet multi-shaded pink, and put together 100 kits for sale. $20 of the sale price of each kit went to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. All 100 of her kits were sold, and there are no more. Laura probably never wants to see the color pink again in her life!
I am the proud owner of Kit No. 3 of 100, signed and numbered by Laura.
And it could be yours.
So I'm 49 (but I don't feel it). I guess this means I am officially (almost) middle-aged. Given my genes and all those greens I eat and weights I lift, and if the world doesn't come to an end before then, I probably have another 49 51 or so to go. Happy birthday to me. (Sorry, no rack photos.)
Speaking of racks, though, of course I think everyone knows what Susan G. Komen stands for -- research for a breast cancer cure. I have been on a pretty close watch for breast cancer for a decade, having been placed in a high-risk category. But recently my risk category has been somewhat downgraded based on continued family history and personal history and such. Of course this is no guarantee that I won't get it, but it's a bit of a weight off my mind. I'm glad I won't have to be going through that seemingly constant revolving door to the Breast Care Center quite so often, too. Hopefully all will continue to be well in that regard. Maybe I'll reconsider showing the rack, just to celebrate that fact. HmLemmethinkNO.

I would love to get one of Laura's kits! I had lots of fun helping her sew up the Greensburg Afghans and love her yarn I've tried!

Feliz Cumpleanos! Enjoy the cake--and don't forget to have a slice for your breakfast tomorrow morning! (Best birthday tradition ever--USMC family, you know...)
Many happy returns o'the day. And lots of laughs, too.

Awww, I'm crushed that we don't get to see a big ole birthday rack! ;) Happy, happy day to you!
(And I don't mean to be ungrateful, but no pink socks for me please--I've got a stash problem I'm trying to break.)

Happy birthday! I wish I knew about those pink ribbon sock kits earlier. Great idea, but I can't stand the color pink (so please don't put me in the drawing). I will however, keep clicking daily at thebreastcancersite.com... as well as donating to breast cancer research when I can. :) It definitely is one of those really good causes.

Happy birthday! I don't need to be entered into the drawing, but I'm glad that your rack is considered a little bit lower risk, whether you show it off or not. There's something to be said, too, for not looking your age, but since I don't either, I guess that means I still look ten years younger than you.

Joyeux anniversaire from me and my two skeins of Brooks Farm Harmony (marinating in my stash)! Please don't enter me in the drawing (see previous sentence) but come... join me on the shady side of fifty... it's not so bad! Bises, J.

Well, I'll be 60 in September so can easily tell you there's no big difference between 49, 50, etc. EXCEPT the years just go by faster... Grab and enjoy each day, Norma. But I think you do that now!
Happy b-day and no sock drawing for me, ok? I really am not much of a sock knitter :)

Happy Birthday!!!! I do want to be in the drawing but promise to reuse the prize for my Half-Marathon raffle. I'm running for Dana-Farber cancer research so still appropriate.
Are you having an extra special mix from the garden for dinner tonight?

Reading your blog keeps giving me ideas for how I can give back, using my powers for good. Plus that food and health stuff inspires me to make myself a better, healthier person. Many returns of the day to you, and thank you for all the days past.

Many happy returns of the day! And here I had decided that most of the knitbloggers were younger than I (well you still are, but not by much!).
Gosh those are pretty socks. Aren't people who can design awesome?
