172. Oops, I Did It Again

Harvest Photo of the Day, of a different kind.

0001_81

I have another pair almost like this one.

I bought the black, and loved it so much I went back and got the bronze.  Love.  These are Clarks!  Who says Clarks only makes granny shoes? These are sweet. I'll be wearing these to death all summer, I predict.

Cute side story:  I went for a mammo the other day and wore the bronze pair.  The mammo technician (is that what they're called?) noticed them immediately and said she adored them.  (They were especially fetching under my hospital gown, I am sure!) She said she has the black ones, but the bronze ones are awesome.  I told her my story, and that I had got them at 50% off at Penney's.  How much you wanna bet she went over after work and has two pairs to match my two pairs?

I'm very impressed with JCPenney lately.  What gives? They've really got their shit together, it seems.

And you know what else?  This is my very-first-ever professional pedicure.  And what you don't see is my hands, which are sporting their third-ever-in-my-lifetime (I think) professional manicure.  It's not too exciting, because my nails are short and the poor girl did the best she could with my cuticles that have been ravaged by poor care and constant battering in the garden.  And, when I was paying her, I grabbed my credit card and ruined the polish on the index finger of my right hand.  I noticed it when I got out to my car.  I know I could have gone in right then and there and had her fix it, but honestly, I'm a menace to a manicure and never should have bothered with it in the first place.  Later after I got home from yoga class, I noticed that my middle finger on the right hand had lost some of its polish, too. I don't even know how I did that.

Still, it was a nice little treat to myself for getting ready for the busy-busy summer school schedule on which I am about to embark. (Graduate-level Humanities. Kierkegaard, Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Antonioni, Bergman.... Piece of cake. Ha.) What the hell -- why not sniff some nail polish fumes, be sort of pampered for half an hour, spend the money, and immediately ruin it?  Life is short.

Isn't it Sartre?
Cute shoes!

FABulous shoes, and I hear you about the manicure. My nails are like professional polish proof - I can peel all the color off my nails from root to tip in one piece, making them look like truly bizarre flower petals. Every single time I try to have a real manicure (let's not go into the one time I did fake nails, m'kay?) it does this. I've given up, especially as I keep them short to avoid issues while typing.

I got fake nails for my wedding. Never again. I'll take a manicure, no polish, anytime, though...

Cute shoes, and great toes. I love Clark's! I have the same manicure issues - it's just not worth it for me. Gone in 30 seconds. And my feet are so gross from running that I have to spend the entire appointment apologizing.

Love the shoes! When I saw the picture, my first thought was "Yay, I'm not the only one who does that." (http://noolieknits.typepad.com/noolieknits/2008/03/im-losing-it.html) Guess I AM the only one who does that :( I do love me some Clarks, though. Good to hear I can find them at JC Penney since I no longer shop at the hell hole Kittery Trading Post since they laid off hubby after 25 years!

A manicure is just what you said...for the cuticles. I have very short nails too but by having the cuticles and the finger tips cared for I have far fewer hang nails or other problems. Forget the polish. Love the shoes and toes!

I love Clarks but Hannah says they are librarians shoes. Whatever.
I also love a good pedicure but I never bother with the manicure because I also always ruin it immediately.

Nice pedi! I need one, but am like Nora I will spend the whole time apologizing for the state of my feet- rough and stained from wearing flip-flops in the garden. I've had a few manicures- the last one was for my wedding and had tips put on- they started to turn green underneath by the end of my honeymoon. Very ick and haven't dared try again. I , like you , am a gardener and a result have farmer's hands. Can't stand to wear gloves unless I'm dealing with thorny roses.

That Humanities course sounds like B's cup of tea. He'd be in heaven.

Wonderful sandals. I just bought a pair of Keen flip-flops that I will be wearing to death.

I have never had either, pedicure or manicure, ever. And I think I can get the rest of the way in that condition, too. I do need some new sandals, though, and those ARE cute!

I loved my Clarks sandals from last year. Sadly the thong part on one of them snapped and I don't know if I can get them repaired. Very comfortable and very stylish (IMO).

Love your toenail color. ;-)

er, enjoy the Kierkegaard this summer!

I also thought you wore two different shoes by accident! Yeah, like I did one time on a camping/hiking trip with a girlfriend. When I got my hiking boots out to put them on, I noticed I had TWO right boots. My girlfriend laughed hysterically. I had to wear sandals to walk around. The ped looks great.

I love your sandals! I got my first pedicure the day before my wedding, and I decided then that professional pedicures are a very, very good thing, and a reasonable indulgence. Your feet look very cute. As for manicures, I get them on occasion, but don't get polish as it'll only last for about a day.

Love the sandals! And I ruin manicures immediatley as well. And I care just about as much as you do. Hence, I don't get manis very often...

Love the sandals - like you, when I find something that works I buy it in as many colors that suit me. I have all my 'good' shoes in brown and black.

I got my first pedi this spring too - a decadent little process I totally enjoyed! Can't afford it all the time but it was a nice treat.

Lovely colours on and around the toes notwithstanding, what I want to know is: did you acquire the background stone chippings specifically to take the picture or did that "just happen" courtesy of some of your great computer prowess???

I love pedis and get them as often as possible, if only to just sit and do nothing for an hour or so. I turn on the vibrating chair and just sort of drift off. Last time I went I forgot about a bruise on my shin. It's the first massage I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

Very nice. Have you ever thought of just a "sports manicure" on the fingers? It's what they do for men. It's just buffing. Your nail beds get nice & pink, the tips get white & best of all...the high shine you get can't chip or smear. Natural pink & white look. I got the buffer thingy and do it to myself all the time, and to my DH when he'll let me. I point out it makes his nails stronger...

Love Clarks! I have big, wide feet and foot problems and they even make them in my size and they're nice and cushiony. I've been needing some brown sandals but maybe what I really need is some *bronze* ones.

Yup, I agree about the manicure. I love the feeling of the manicure, but I always jack up the mani shortly after it's done. Typing all day for the day job and at night with surfing chips my nails no matter what. I love getting a pedicure though, those are heaven.

Pampering is the way to go.

I love that photo, Nor! The multicolor stones really make that picture! (I am a pedicure virgin)
xo

I had my first pedicure last year when I was 40, and I thought I was odd. Thanks for letting me know that there are plenty of other middle-class women who have never had one :-).

Go pedicure! I've only had two professional ones in my life, but they are fun. (I usually do my own.) I have to wear gloves when I garden--my skin is too sensitive to handle the post-gardening scrubbing. I even have to wear gloves to wash dishes or my skin starts to fall off. {sigh} In spite of all this, I still can't keep a manicure to save my life, so I don't bother with that.

When I was collecting pictures of knitter's hands, I noticed that none of us have long fancy nails. Few of us even wear polish. What do manicured women DO with their hands?

Love the shoes!

My nails won't hold polish at all... no matter what. It's so annoying, it just peels right off. They are also really soft and thin, so they don't get very long. I had acrylics done for the wedding (of course, I didn't *ask* for acrylics, I asked for temporaries, but my manicurist didn't understand - her command of English was fairly weak and most of my requests were sort of ignored because of that) and the next day - you know, the wedding day - one of them had already lifted a little from my natural nail! Never again. As a pianist and a MacBook user, my nails have to be short.

Now the pedicure? That was heaven... I felt guilty letting someone do all that stuff to my feet! (Except I got an infected toe from it and was hobbling a bit the morning of the wedding... I think I'll go somewhere else next time...)

Cute tootsies :)

Thanks for getting your mammo.

Get your mammograms. Do your self-exams.
