72. And The Waiter's Eyes Were The Most Incredible Shade of Blue
WHERE: Sarducci's Restaurant
WHAT: Lunch, laughter, flirting with intimidating probably frightening the hell out of the cute young waiter (it's a middle-aged women's prerogative, not that any of us is a day over 29), modeling Ruby's incredibly beautiful woven scarves, buying scarves, taking photos, making a general spectacle of ourselves. All this, and no alcohol was involved.
WHEN: Yesterday afternoon, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (because we weren't having much of a good time at all, ahem)
This is the one I bought for myself. When I first saw the pile of scarves Ruby brought me to look through, this is not the one I thought I would end up with. I thought it was a bit masculine. Then I went in the bathroom to try on several, and this one took my breath away. It's the one I chose for me, hands down.
I came back to the table to tell my companions this is the one for me, and they were thrilled. They both said it is the perfect thing for my eyes and coloring (if ever I were to trust two women about color, it's these two), and it seems my scarf has a story, which makes my choice all the more delicious. They dyed the brown yarn together one day at Judy's house. They were trying for a very dark chocolate brown, and they thought they had it spot-on perfect. Then when it dried, it was nothing like what they were going for. It's more mocha/taupe. They thought it was a failure. But Ruby decided to try it in the scarf, and in the end, it worked -- and how! Now I own it. And when I was driving home after work last night, I suddenly thought of a vintage Celtic brooch with amethysts that I have. I wondered if they would look good together.
I think so.
We left the waiter with the azure eyes a nice generous tip for being so cute and so patient with us (and for, when he brought the first glasses of water, saying, "Oh, let me put these here so I don't hurt all your nice scarves" -- and for not once saying "How are you guys doing?" which is a major pet peeve of mine).
Then we parted ways. I had to go to work just a couple blocks away at 5 o'clock, and when last I saw Judy and Ruby, they were headed to the bead store. Judy has a new yarn she is experimenting with. It's lovely and lustrous, and she was looking for amethyst beads to test-knit the yarn for a shawl. She's worried it's too shiny. I think that with her mastery of color and this nice sheen, it's going to be an evening-wear stunner and a best-seller.
So it was not a spa day, but it was every bit as good.

It was even better than a spa day! I'm so so jealous!

I'm SO jealous! But then again I saw a lot of Judy at SPA and it's only fair to share :-) Those scarves are gorgeous!

Oh, and that photo of Judy is wonderful! She has an incredible shade of blue too- both eyes and scarf!

I'm so happy for you that you had a nice afternoon with Judy and Ruby!

Mmmmmmmm - browns and blues together. I can't resist. I just took up weaving - I hope I can weave such beautiful things one day.

What beautiful work these women do! You chose very well - and your brooch is stunning. Friends are better than a spa, I think.

Grrlfriends are every bit as good. That scarf is you! What a perfect match to the broach! You'll be unstoppable! ;-)
The "guy" thing...major peeve here, too. That waiter will remember you three for a long time!

*Stunning* AND the brooch is perfect with it! I think my personal choice would be the one she's wearing, as it looks like "my" colors ;o)

Ruby is a jewel of a weaver! Well-designed, well executed scarves. Bravo!! And the amethyst broach is a winner. Curves to soften the straights, and the amethysts speak so nicely to the blues!

LOVE that taupe colour in your scarf!! Will we be getting some cheeky photos of you with Beautiful Woven Scarf?
Blue blue eyes... have always found blue eyes intriguing, to the point of staring, and unabashedly so... oh, I might apologize just to explain but blue eyes are just amazing to me.

Beautiful scarves. Sounds like a great day with friends - and we all need "girl" time. No matter how old we become, time with female friends is very important.
The other pet peeve of mine is when the waiter asks if I want dessert - while I'm still in the middle of my meal.

Wow! And you just *happened* to have that brooch?! Serendipity!

Great time! Lucky that Sarducci's wasn't crowded. It felt like we filled up the porch with our laughter.
The brooch is perfect! Perfect! I am so happy that it was you that ended up with the "story" scarf.

OMG!! The scarf is beautiful and perfect for you. And the brooch! OMG!!

Stunning! And so perfect with the brooch.

That scarf is perfect with that brooch and they are perfect for you. I'm so glad you had a good time at your lunch. No waiter photos? Shame on you!
Love that Ruby. She does gorgeous work.

I have long known that good company is its own intoxicant. Add such lucious fibery goods... (are those silk?) Fumes. It's all the fumes.
Oh yeah, the brooch is pretty spiffy too. ;P

Words cannot express the beauty of those scarves. I wish I was at lunch with you GALS (ahem! :) ) I think the brooch is a great match too.

What? No photos of the hot waiter and his um, eyes?

Lucky you, with a beautiful new scarf! And the brooch--gee, I wish that were something that could be found on Etsy. ;-)

It is a lovely scarf. Some things are just meant to be. When we (my friends and I) go out, one of the girls always apologizes in advance as soon as we enter any establishment. ;-)

Sarduci's, cute waiter and what? no alcohol! Wow! Love the scarf and brooch-amethyst. My birthstone...send it right on over! LOL.

Droool... to say that that scarf and that pin look good together is rather like saying that the Pacific Ocean is a bit damp. Crud, Ann beat me to the birthstone.

Lunch is always a bit better when there is a cute waiter by to bring the Diet Coke. I miss Girl's Night Out. It has been forever in my neck of the woods.

Those scarves are spectacular! Wow!

I thought I was the only one that hates the "you guys" thing at restaurants! Lovely scarves, too. Congratulations on the great match!

Oh yeah, totally georgeous...stunning... they look woven, be-a-utiful. I'm that way about family birthdays, especially w/ dh's family (he's one of 8 and they all have partners/spouses/and some have kids). My birthday is 4 days after Margene's (2 minutes shy of 4 hours after St. Pat's day...) so don't forget! (kidding...)

Those scarves are breathtaking. I'd LOVE to buy one for my mom for her birthday, but I'm fairly certain that I couldn't afford one. But they are stunning.
