50. That's What I'm Talkin' About

I bought this CD yesterday, and this is the first track. Thanks for the recommendation, Margene! Funny, a bit before Christmas I was having coffee with someone and "Constant Craving" was playing.  I said, "What ever happened to k.d. lang?" I guess she's been busy and she forgot to send me a personal note. (Heh.) I looked at the new CD the other day in Starbucks, but didn't pick it up. I'm glad I did yesterday. And then I listened to her version of "Crying" and a few others on YouTube. Yeah, that totally did me in. Her voice should probably be a regulated substance.

I dream of spring.

And because tears should always be followed with laughter, I can't resist following up with this precious Dame Edna interview of Katherine Dawn. (It's quite long, but it's worth it.)

I just saw a little bit of an interview with her last night. She loves getting older, she said. She loves the idea of getting wiser.

I saw her live once, here at our little community hall, in her cowpunk phase. She was stunning.

That first comment made me wonder for a moment if Bethany was referring to Dame Edna or KD Lang. It took just a moment longer than it should've... (Dame Edna in a cowpunk phase... hmmmm)
:o)

I love k.d. lang singing her torch/diva stuff (mostly written by other people). Not such a fan of the stuff she wrote herself. Best pipes in the business, though. Whoa.

Dame Edna FTW! For years I didn't know that she was a man in drag! Ahh, the innocence of youth!

When K.D. sends you the note, please let me know ;-)

Glad to be of service, my friend.

I'm thinking k d needs a new cap. This one has a hole. And that sweater is looking a little raggedy, too...
just saying...

Dame Edna and KD lang with Ivana Trump. OK, I'm not likely to experience anything stranger today. ("When did you first know you were Canadian?")

Dame Edna has to be my favorite person ever. And now there is new kd lang to be had. This day could not possibly get any better.

We saw k.d. live in concert several years ago (she opened for Tony Bennett) and she just blew us away. I almost picked up the CD the other day...I'm going back to the store later today! Thanks for that.

Mercy, I love k.d., always have. I was thinking the same as Gretchen, knit her a nice warm hat, I bet she'd like some mittens with that :^)

Oh, wonderful! I haven't heard any k.d. for quite a while. Such an awesome voice. Guess I need to go rummage through my neglected CDs...

i. LOVE. kd lang.

somewhere there's a video of little me dancing around to her "three days". a tiny little child singing mournfully about the "three days that i hate to be alive... yesterday, today and tomorrow!"

it's funny, i forgot just how much i loved her till that song came on the radio a few months ago... and i knew every darn word even though i hadn't heard it in years!

oh, and did you ever see her appearance on dharma and greg? classic. with lyle lovett!

her voice is amazing. the interview was a riot, too.

Oh, my GOD that is so funny! Made my day!

I have always adored k.d.'s voice. She's the best. I had heard she was coming out with a new cd, but got busy and forgot about it. Might just have to pick it up at lunchtime...thanks for the review!

Oh, this was great. I saved these to watch while I had my lunch today -- nothin' like a song to tug at your heart and then a good laugh! k.d. looked SCARED TO DEATH during most of that interview -- the laughing w/tears such a relief.
Thanks.

I'm laughing at Nat's comment. Dame Edna....too funny!

k.d. lang is my "girl exception." Meaning that it is boys that turn my crank, but if k.d. ever asked I'd not think twice! (OK, maybe twice, but not thrice!)

Wow, that's just amazing. Funny, I saw "watershed" and thought first of my favorite Indigo Girls song.

k.d. singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah on YouTube is another excellent one. (And you can buy it at iTunes, hint, hint.)

Hello Possums! I adore Dame Edna.

The answer to what's kd lang doing theses days? Getting better. thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the k. d. lang. I was a HUGE fan until seeing her (for the second time) several years ago. She was coo-coo as all cocopuffs and it soured me a bit. But that voice....

k.d. lang is the best. I remember her very well from her early days when she would dress up all in her cowgirl duds.

Yet another celebrity crush mention. She puts on a grrrrreat show, too. Love my K.D.

wonderful fun, that. Thanks!

May I present my kd creds?

I first saw her at the Kit Kat Club in 1986. She was third on the bill. I was really there to see Steve Earle. She LAID ON THE FLOOR when she sang Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray. I thought I was going to die with the love of the moment. She was having such a good time with her Reclines. Steve Earle was no longer the point of the evening. Although I did stay until after 2 a.m. on a work night just to finally hear him. Good times!

Anyway I try not to miss her shows ever since she got all famous and everything, but she sells out so sometimes I have missed her (like recently at Jazz at Lincoln Center). Last year we saw Tony Bennett at Radio City. He was having walk-on duets with people like James Taylor. Then he welcomed his friend "who is the best singer singing today, my dear friend" and of course it was her. They did a little dance. SIGH. She IS the best voice singing today.

Hey! Hey! The bigbonegal! xoxo Kay

PS Please come to Noo Yawk for your next eye appointment. That was ridiculous. It's your EYES. They absolutely have to be able to clearly explain to you anything they are thinking of doing to your eyes, and there are definitely wonderful eye docs who do just that.

PPS Hope I haven't committed more than a couple of pet peeves.
